So What???

"Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% of how we react to it"
This quote is so true that we all like the quote and post it over Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn et all. However, this too is our reaction to reading the quote. Very few of us actually realize on how to implement it in Life.
My elder brother & my Guru taught me a simple techniques to learn how to react to life events. Start with the question - "So What?". Yes, it is a question of just 2 words but if asked with honest feelings to our heart, we get the answer to move ahead in life!
But wait a minute... Asking 'So what?' doesn't give us all the answers that we require. But it helps us to move out of state of inertia (no action). Quite often we come across a phase or a moment in life that we enter a state of inertia either due to success, praises, victories, moments of joy or failures, criticisms, defeats and sulking moments. And we get STUCK in those moments.
In 2012 I had visited the headquarters of my then firm and had the opportunity to meet high level dignitaries and the Board, I was in 'state of awe'. Post my return, in a townhall of 2000+ people, I exclaimed my amazement of meeting such stalwarts and declared that such meeting was the best moment of life.
Little did I knew then that a respected senior questioned me in front of the audience "So what?" I was baffled to hear that question that I couldn't even make an eye contact with her. But that moment perturbed me to think more of that 2 word question - 'So what?' This question made me change the way I thought of that meeting and I started asking 'so what?' to all my success and failures which helped me to move out of that state of inertia.
I am sure, all those who read this article will also say, 'so what?' But if one is able to use 'So what?' for every phases of success, failures or say no results, I am sure you will have some nudge from within to move ahead from that inertia!
So What???

Ask, Believe, Receive!
I have always believed in destiny and that nobody can get more or less than what is destined for them. Then i came across a quote by Henry Ford " Whether you think you can or whether you think you cannot, either ways, you are Right!" This thought made me realize that one cant simply close their eyes and wait for thing to happen to them, they have a choice to make things happen. And with that, I began to rethink the way i looked at life. My dream became the source of my energy and optimism steeled my backbone.
I have had many dreams that have spanned over a course of few weeks to several years and one of them is winning the "Year-end Trophy". The year-end event in my firm was the last in a long, fun-filled line of events hosted by the People Agenda Committee of our company. Being the last, it is the grandest occasion and also the one that could make or break a team's position in the competition to the trophy. I was able to attend the event of previous year and my eyes glittered as they took in the magnitude of the event. On that day I was nominated as the Captain of the Green Team (everyone in the organization was divided in 4 colours and Green was one of them) and there on began the journey to fulfilling yet another dream!
One of the most important steps that I undertook was the visualization exercise. Every day I would spent about 10 minutes visualizing a member of our senior management announce that the Green Team has won the Year end trophy. I also share this exercise with the larger team during my first team meeting with them. The joy and excitement that this visual provided is what we carried into every event. Yet, at the end of every event, we found ourselves 2nd or 3rd of sadly last, but never first.
As a team, we faced many ups & downs through the year - people left, there were misunderstandings and tears - but one thing that kept some of us and me at large going was this dream to lift the trophy. While some jumped on the bandwagon with me, others decided to give the journey a pass and ridicule it instead.
Fast forward to the day of the final Year-end Event.
All the teams were prepared to give their best for this big finale. While I struggled with the fear of losing the trophy to others, deep down in my heart surged a confidence that the Green Team would come on top! Right before the performance, we huddled together and made a simple but important decision: To trust our abilities and enjoy ourselves to the hilt on the stage.
As I witnessed other teams performance, i could see that they too were splendid and thought that all teams have equal chance of winning the finale. But there, somewhere in my heart, the dream, the visualization and the words " and the winner is the Green Team" echoed repeatedly. I held on the visualization and the belief in my heart gearing up for triumph.
As the moment of announcement came by, I couldn't believe my eyes, my ears and my brain. The announcement was made in the same order, exactly the same words and in the same manner as I would see in the visualization exercise. Our dream had come true. Together, we had made this beautiful moment come to pass and together we lifted the Year-end trophy.
Dreams do come true and if you truly believe in it, it gives more than one asks for....
My Success Mantra:
Decide what you want
Believe you can have it
Believe you deserve it and it is possible for you
Close your eyes, visualize the dream as if it is the present moment.. Feel it
Focus on being grateful to all that you have
Release it to the Universe (God, The One..) and it shall Manifest
Lots of Love & Light
